Mike Aquilina: Uncovering the ancient cities that shaped Christianity
In its earliest days, Christianity was a faith associated with cities. Cities were the spots chosen by the Apostles to begin spreading the Good News, the earliest Christian communities were found in city centers, and cities quickly became the focal points of persecution of Christians-and the blood of the martyrs was always the seed of the Church.
Best-selling author Mike Aquilina has written a book about twelve cities in the ancient world where Christianity caught hold and spread despite often brutal persecutions. “Rabbles, Riots, and Ruins” is a lively journey through cities as diverse and Rome and Jerusalem, Milan and Constantinople.
In this episode, host Andrew Petiprin speaks with Aquilina about how the unique characteristics of these cities allowed for the development and flourishing of the faith, frequently in hostile environments. They discuss the cities-some still well-known, others lost to history-that defined and shaped the earliest centuries of our Christian faith.

The hero of the new novel "Death in Black and White" is a Catholic priest and classic film buff who finds himself caught in a web of crime, sin, and double-crossings that rivals anything found in his favorite film-noir detective movies. The book’s author, Fr. Michael Brisson-also a Catholic priest and classic film buff-may not have real-life experience of being in the clutches of the Mob, but h...

Most Catholics are aware, even if only in a vague way, of the many holy men and women who have come before us who wrote or preached on the spiritual life. We may have read about their lives; we may find their holiness and closeness to God inspiring. But do many of us look to them for concrete, specific spiritual guidance? Archbishop Emeritus Alfred Hughes has written a book that presents the lu...

This beautiful film is a unique and moving glimpse into rarely seen monastic life within 12 monasteries in Spain that provides a powerful opportunity for viewers to experience the silence, prayer, and simplicity that is a contradiction to our noise-infested world. Filmmakers take the audience behind the monastic walls of the hidden and unknown life in a religious cloister to learn what leads a ...

When Joseph Ratzinger became pope in 2005, there was a perception in some quarters that this new pontiff-a renowned theologian and former head of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith-was a highbrow academic who would preach from the chair of St. Peter in abstruse theoretical language that the average Catholic would find impenetrable. Fortunately for all of us, this turned ou...

Herod wasn't God he was just a man except he brought about his own punishment our Lord didn't he was only doing what he'd been put on earth to do ie God's will
Thank you for posting this interview. I learned a lot in such a bit of time.
You didnt discuss diogenes hardly at all.
I am endlessly fascinated by the cynics. The world would be very different if they didnt live i think.
Box Office of this movie had to of been $950,000,000,000,000
Lovely tribute gentlemen.
One of the most effective and inspiring movies about Jesus and Mary. An example of what ART can do to bring us closer to Jesus and Mary. This movie has become one of my fav, and also the resemblance of the actor playing Jesus to the divine mercy image. Mary, indeed, is portrayed as a humble servant and ready to embrace and help every one of us in need. The final scene is a strong portrayal of Jesus and Mary working together to take care of mankind. “The Virgin Mary is the surest, easiest, quickest and most perfect means of reaching Jesus Christ.” - Louis de Montfort

It's amazing to me that Larry Chapp's Kindle book is as expensive as the issued edition. How can this be wise economically? As much as Id Iike to get it, I'd rather buy two other Kindle books than at this unusual Kindle price.
I love the Formed Book Club. Thank you. I think this is my 3rd or 4th book. 2:15 pacific time
Love it
Where can I watch this movie?
Seriously I will never get tired of watching this movie. Let me hope one day I will get another movie like this so educative and funny at the same time
Can we get the full movie
I read Larry's book. I thought it was excellent. Yes, at times it was a bit academic, but, for the most part, it was very down-to-earth and relevant to the times in which we live.
Q1 Sales sure are looking promising! (January, February, March) Expected income: $500,000,000 Actual Income: $950,000,000,000,000

It would be beneficial if the Vatican put together a group of people who made documentaries, like our many protestants and secular who put together documentaries to put down the RC Church. Truth should be put out by us. We live in a technological world, not many will sit a read a history book but they would sit down and listen and watch a documentary. Bring in the fresh air ~ I know we have some talented people who could do it. If the Vatican can spend 1 million dollars for an elton john movie, they can match that and give it to a few good men to do an accurate documentary. From Jesus to now.
